Who are you?The immortal question, one that much cleverer philosophers than I have been wrestling with for millennia… Who am I? What am I doing here?Well I suppose who I am is relatively easy: I am Justin Wheeler. What am I doing here is much harder…Bruce Wayne in Batman begins stated “It’s not who I am underneath… but what I do… that defines me.” Whilst I enjoyed the movie and the line obviously stuck with me I don’t want what I do to define me. Elsewhere on the web I came across this: “You are more than what you do. Your title should not confine you and your job does not define you,” and this seems to me to be a much more accurate idea, but still doesn’t tell you what I am doing here.So let’s give you a bit more background:I grew up in Shropshire outside a lovely little town called Ludlow where I had a pretty idyllic and fortunate childhood. When I was 18 I moved to London and stayed there until my late 30’s when as part of an early midlife crisis I decided I had had enough of England and wanted to live somewhere else so I moved to the North of Peru.I currently live in Trujillo, a city in the North of Peru. It is known as the Capital of the Everlasting Spring, which is rather nice as England where I was born and grew up is more famous for lots and lots of rain!As a rather nice twist of fate I discovered after moving here that Peruvian Independence Day happens to be on my birthday. As I get older and more people, except on Facebook, forget that it is my birthday, it is nice to feel that the entire country is celebrating for me… 😉Prior to moving here I had been a small time publisher, had a short military career, worked in mail order, public relations and film production, and lost most of my money in an ill-fated restaurant venture.Since moving here I started to work from home on the internet, which was pretty different to what I had been doing before. Initially I started by offering web design and development services through my company Vashon Media and after a year or so we added in Social Media management.I am now proud to offer Social Media Consulting, Web Development and hosting to companies from as far afield as Thailand to Spain, although with a majority based out of the UK. In addition over time I started selling my own WordPress plugins that we had developed either for our own use or for our clients and more recently I have started creating more training. You can see some of the various products I sell through my products page.Outside of work, I love travel, cooking, backgammon, horses my friends and family. And there you have a brief description of me, but I am not sure how good an answer I have done defining me.So what am I doing here, on this blog?I originally bought this domain quite a long time ago to get myself a personal non business related email address and for quite a long time it was purely used as an email address. I have over the years periodically decided I should start blogging regularly, but have never really got round to it.More recently I have committed to writing something every day – now what I write may not always make it to this blog – but sometimes it will.In addition you can find some of my travel blogs from my drive across India in a Rickshaw and my drive from London to Mongolia in a 2CV, some other travel related thoughts, a little bit of cooking, some photos and a random and eclectic mix of other things…I hope you like it.Should you have any questions please feel free to contact me. I look forward to getting to know you better.
